Abstract
About 2.5% of sudden deafness patients were psychogenic sudden deafness patients. The majority of sudden deafness patients are unilateral in their occurrences, whereas bilateral involvement is rarely seen. We experienced a case of unilateral sudden sensorineural hearing (SSNHL) loss with contralateral psychogenic hearing loss in a 56 year old male patient. At the first visit to our clinic, the patient showed left SSNHL. Seven days after the onset, he suddenly experienced a right SSNHL showed indistinctive audiologic features. A combined therapy using corticosteroid for acute left SSNHL, and psychiatric counseling based on cognitive therapy and the administration of a tranquilizer was performed. His right hearing threshold showed the normal audiologic test after the treatment.
